Spay & Neuter is the only humane option to reduce the homeless pet population crisis, and the extraordinarily high euthanasia rates all over our country.

Each year , approximately 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized (390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats). Our goal is to do everything we can to decrease these numbers.

Since our inception, we have been able to Adopt, TNR, or use our Spay/Neuter community outreach to help over 3,040 animals - with our numbers exponentially increasing every year as we expand and grow our team.

Lets end the cycle.

  • TNR - 2019

    Trap Neuter Return

TNR is usually done for feral or unsocial cats needing trapped in a humane trap.

This includes Spay/Neuter, Rabies, Booster shot, flea medication, treatment for any visible wounds as well as an Ear Tip. TNR surgery can also be done on indoor / outdoor cats to help indicate they have been fixed and are cared for - so they are not ever trapped and sent to a shelter or put under anesthesia again.

We are limited to TNR in MERCER county currently, but can assist if you can trap cats on your own and get them to a clinic.

You can also contact our partner Spay Our Strays for assistance in other areas !

  • Last Litter Program

Is your cat pregnant or expecting a litter of kittens? If so, HHR will take in the entire litter, and pay for you to take the mother and father along with all other pets in your home to one of our trusted vets to be fixed for free.

This is under the condition the entire litter is surrendered, as we want to make sure we completely end the cycle. If someone is interested in adopting one they can contact us for after the kittens if fixed, chipped, and vetted.

Contact us once your cat has its litter, let us know how many, we schedule a date to have you bring in your kittens when they are weaned at around 7-8 weeks and mom to be spayed at the same time, we’ll also start scheduling your other pets for surgeries.

    _____________________________________________________________

*You will be responsible for transporting your mother cat/kittens at the time of scheduled surgery. Furthermore if something happens and you cannot get the kittens to us before surgery and/or cannot get mom cat to the scheduled appointment, it can sometimes take several weeks to reschedule. (However we will take kittens at the time they are weaned).

*You must sign an owner surrender form for the kittens confirming you are permanently signing them over to HHR to be vetted and adopted. If you change your mind and want to adopt one you must apply, be approved and pay adoption fee like any other adopter.

*You will be asked to sign a surgical waiver at the clinic where you confirm your appointment ( as with all surgeries and clinics) for release of liability.

    Spaces are Limited

  • Spay to Save Program

When funds allow, we want to help those who cannot afford to fix their pets. We ask that you pay what you can, and you use one of several lower cost vets around Central Kentucky. We subsidize the remainder of the Spay/Neuter at one of those clinics.

*You will be asked to sign a surgical waiver at the clinic where you confirm your appointment ( as is standard with all surgeries and clinics) for release of liability.

    * Owners are responsible for transportation to / from the clinic.
